The Christmas tree is up the stockings are hung and now it’s time to think on how to fill them, not to mention all of the other gifts for friends and extended family. On top of that, is the usual holiday challenge of stretching that holiday budget just a little bit further. The holidays are always a wonderful time to spend time with (and a little extra money on) the ones you love, but it can often stretch your budget pretty thin. Creating DIY presents or giving gifts that are heavy on sentiment and light on the checkbook are great ways to keep holiday costs low, but what about stretching your budget with money you probably don’t realize you already have?

A recent Coinstar holiday survey revealed that Americans thought they had $21 in change, while Coinstar kiosk data showed that the average pour for the no fee eCertificate option was $58 – nearly triple what people thought they had! While 85% of Americans report that they have spare change lying around, 86% of survey respondents would not feel comfortable buying holiday gifts with just coins. For gift givers or holiday hostesses looking to stretch their budget further, cashing in their spare change at Coinstar is a great solution! You can use the kiosks to get cash or use their no fee eCertificate option to get your change turned into gift cards for your favorite holiday shopping locations.

So get the kids involved and search high and low for spare change – under the couch, in your car’s cup holder, on the laundry room floor – and I promise you’ll be able to buy an extra gift or two in no time. With all of the running around us moms do around the holidays, cashing in on your extra change might even be the perfect way to treat yourself to that special something you’ve been eyeing in the shop window.
