Kid-friendly fruit ideas that will blow their mind!

Published on

Some kids love fruit, while others just refuse to eat any at all! If you are struggling with the latter, here are our top kid-friendly fruit ideas.

Before you start pulling your hair out, try these fun (and super easy) ways to make fruit more interesting for your child. It beats having to force feed it to them, right? And yes, some ideas might include hiding the fruit, but we won’t tell them that!

1. Bananas in Pyjamas

Can’t get your little monkey to eat bananas? Try this simple treat idea. Freeze a peeled banana on a paddle pop stick for about three hours. Dip it into melted chocolate and let the kids ‘dress’ the banana into their favourite pj’s – roll the banana into their favourite cereal, nuts or sprinkles. It looks cute, tastes great and the kids will love making them!

2. Fruit Kebabs

Give kids sliced up fruit and they probably won’t look at it. Skewer the same fruit pieces on a kebab stick, and things suddenly get interesting! Use anything from frozen grapes (red and green), to strawberries, blueberries, and cubes of kiwis and pineapples. Make it a rainbow kebab with the colours. It’s such a healthy treat, you could even throw in marshmallows and cheese cubes as an extra treat.

3. Fruit & Jelly Cups

Every child likes jelly. Get them involved in making this fun treat by chopping up some fruit, dividing it equally into a few jelly cups, add their favourite jelly flavour and leave it to set in the fridge. It’ll be gone in no time!

4. Fruit and Yoghurt Popsicles

Blend some fruit (bananas, blueberries, strawberries, mangoes, kiwis) with a touch of honey and some yogurt until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Pour into the popsicle moulds and freeze till solid. You can even do this with paper cups and a wooden stick – just peel away the paper once the popsicle is frozen.

5. Chocolate Fondue with Fruit Sticks

Show us a child who doesn’t like chocolate and you’ll see that doesn’t exist. Lots of fruit (larger pieces), a pot of melted chocolate and sticks to dip the fruit into the chocolate. Hours of fun!

6. Fruit Pizza

When was the last time you saw a watermelon pizza wheel decorated with bananas, grapes and blueberries? Your kids will love eating this pizza just for the uniqueness and great colours if nothing else.

For another version of fruit pizzas, lightly toast whole wheat pitas and top with thick Greek yoghurt or cream cheese (that’s your pizza sauce). Get the kids involved with the toppings – any fruit that’s in season. Cut the pizza into regular pizza wedges.
