Entertainment journalist, restaurant owner, fashion designer, breast cancer survivor, wife, and mother are just a few ways to describe Giuliana Rancic.
We all know we can count on Rancic to be our guide to the red carpet each award show season, but what we really enjoy is watching her live out her dream of being a mother.
Rancic, who moved to the U.S. from Italy when she was 7, has been a staple in entertainment journalism since E! News got on its feet. Through her reality show with her husband, Bill, we joined Giuliana as she got married, struggled to get pregnant, and received a breast cancer diagnosis. Despite the many challenges she faced, Rancic never gave up and has since become an inspiration for women struggling with infertility or breast cancer.
Giuliana and Bill have been happily married since 2007 and welcomed their son, Duke, into the world via surrogacy in 2012. She recently stepped down from E! News to focus on her family — something we can all relate to.
For this week’s Mom Crush Monday, we’re celebrating Giuliana Rancic and getting her take on motherhood, being a survivor, and so much more.
On how to handle bad hair days …
On spending time with her boys …
On the shock of infertility …
Rancic told Health magazine:
“I always say how I chased my career instead of chasing guys. And everybody was patting me on the back. No one ever told me, ‘Oh, by the way, your eggs change when you reach a certain age.’ I didnt think 35 was old! So when the doctor said, ‘Its not as easy as you thought it would be,’ it was a real blow. Because I felt so young. I mean, this is a girl who was running six miles a day, and eating healthy, so how can you tell me that Im not healthy in that department?”
On revealing her breast cancer diagnosis …
After receiving the news that she had breast cancer, Rancic told co-anchor Ryan Seacrest:
“I started realizing I could be an example for women to not just be aware of breast cancer but to act on it … To make an appointment, to give themselves an exam. Because truly, the bottom line is, the earlier you find it, the better chance you have of survival.”
On family vacations …
On owing her life to her son …
In her book Going Off Script, Rancic shares,
“I’m not going to give up. I want that baby, and what’s amazing is that baby will have saved my life because I always said there was some master plan of why my IVFs didn’t work and I never got pregnant.”
On her hair goals …
On appreciating her husband Bill …
In her book Rancic notes,
“He would hold me and let me cry when I wanted to cry and allow me to feel whatever I was feeling. The strength and wisdom it took to do that was incredible, an essential part of Bill and one of the reasons I fell in love with him.”
On family time …
On how to relax …
On her motherhood fantasy …
Giuliana opened up about her parenting fantasy, saying,
“My favorite fantasy of motherhood wasn’t the classic image of cooing parents … traveling with a cranky toddler probably rates up there near the top of parental nightmares, but there it was, my dream sequence.”
On being a good parent …
In her book Rancic divulged her fears of being a mother, questioning, “Am I an unfit mother if I feed him pretzels instead of kale chips, or find myself cracking up instead of cracking down when he does something naughty?”
On spending time with her son Duke …
