Far beyond the Sister, Sister days of scrunchies and floral hats, former-’90s star Tia Mowry-Hardrict has come into her own and accomplished so much in the years since. Mowry-Hardrict can now add author, chef, wife, and mom to her already established acting title.
Mowry-Hardrict dated actor Cory Hardrict for six years before getting married on April 20, 2008. Three years later, the couple welcomed their son, Cree Taylor, on June 28, 2011.
Mowry-Hardrict then went on to publish her first book, Oh, Baby: Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another, sharing her personal experiences about being pregnant and a working mother. In addition to her off-screen accomplishments, Mowry-Hardrict has starred in the reality show Tia & Tamera with twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley, The Game, Instant Mom, and other TV movies.
But her latest project has brought both her family life and her career together as she stars in Tia Mowry at Home, currently being aired on The Cooking Channel. And in an effort to keep our kids healthy, Mowry-Hardrict has also started the “Mom Nose Best” campaign with AstraZeneca, to share her own tips for avoiding the flu.
For this week’s Mom Crush Monday, we’re celebrating Tia Mowry-Hardict and getting her thoughts on living a happy life, raising a son, and more.
On her biggest parenting challenge …
Mowry-Hardrict told Babble,
“We all know kids, they love their fun foods. But I think as a mom it’s my job to make sure that my kid stays healthy and I’m watching what goes into his mouth.”
On having sweet mother-son style …
On how she gets through her day …
Mowry-Hardrict told Babble:
“I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but it’s important: I have fun. Everything that I do, whether it’s making my freaking bed, I’ll throw on some music and I’m dancing. Same thing with cooking, I’ll have a glass of wine while I’m cooking and throw on some Beyoncé or something. It’s all about having fun to help me get through my day.”
On having super cool car swag …
On how she spends her free time …
On defending her body against shamers …
When criticized for gaining weight, Mowry-Hardrict had the perfect response:
“I am not pregnant, I am just happy. I’ve gained these extra 10 [or] 15 pounds because of my cooking show,” she explained. “I’m just enjoying life, and when I want to drop the pounds, I will, but right now I’m happy with who I am.”
On being an aunt …
On spending time with Cree’s uncle …
On how she juggles being a mom and career woman …
“Not everything is going to be perfect. You’re not going to cross all of the things off your to-do list. … Sometimes things don’t get done, but I forgive myself.”
“When I had Cree, breastfeeding for me was a no-brainer; it was something that I truly enjoyed. The bonding experience was unbelievable and I felt so attached to my son.”
On supporting the fight against brain cancer …
On how she protects her family against the flu …
On what success means to her …
“You could be extremely successful and you know, for me, if I don’t have any one to share it with then what’s the point?”
On her marriage being too adorable for words …
On how her parenting style differs from her twin sister, Tamera’s …
Mowry-Hardict told Yahoo Parenting, “I’m less traditional than Tamera — she doesn’t co-sleep and I do. I also never pushed my son to walk and I won’t do ‘cry it out’ [sleep training].”
On remembering the good old days …
On whether Cree will grow up to be an actor like his mama …
Mowry-Hardrict told Babble:
“He’s full of personality, he’s funny as hell, he steals every scene on Tia Mowry at Home, he is so comfortable. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s something that he wants to do.”
