Macklemore has always been an openly sentimental man, putting out songs like “Same Love” in support of the LGBT community, but now he’s opening up about becoming a father and we couldn’t love him more.
The artist took to Facebook to explain how he felt, and it’s really hit home. He started off the statement by saying:
“I wish that I could say that I was in a ‘better place’ when I found out the news. It would make for a far more polished and respectable story. But I think back to that night: praying on the floor at 2am as Tricia went to the bathroom to take the pregnancy test I’d just purchased from Walgreens. I was scared.”
We can definitely relate — becoming a parent is terrifying at first. Macklemore explains how finding out he was going to be a dad helped him change and become a better person before his daughter even arrived. It also resulted in a wonderfully touching new song with Ryan Lewis and Ed Sheeran called “Growing Up.”
As if we weren’t already choked up listening to the lyrics, “I’ll be patient one more month, you wrap your fingers around my thumb,” Macklemore hit us with one more statement. He added:
“Our daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty was born 2 months ago on May 29th. There is nothing like the joy and happiness that comes from bringing a baby into this universe. She has filled my heart in ways that I never knew were possible. She is the love of my life. This song is for her.”
If you love this song as much as we do, you can download it here for free.
Congratulations, Macklemore — we think you’re going to be a great dad.
