Are you alarmed by the sight of this rosy-cheeked child, immobilized in some type of scary-looking contraption? What on earth might this horrible system be used for? Torture? Cruel experiments? Human sacrifice? Or worse?!

This picture of a child stuffed in a plastic tube had many netizens abuzz when it was posted on Reddit by consumer Bretstar, a former hospital employee.

What might this weird equipment have been used for? What grew to become of this helpless toddler? Was he alright?

Well, apparently, this system will not be some instrument of torture for misbehaved toddlers, based on Bretstar.

“I worked as a floor guy buffing and scrubbing at a hospital and every time I got to X-ray and radiology I always saw this machine sitting in the hallway and had to move it. I never once saw the X-ray tech grab it,” he wrote.

Well, that’s a reduction! Then, what is that this bizarre equipment really used for?

According to the producer of the system, which is known as a “Pigg-O-Stat,” it’s an “all-in-one pediatric immobilization device designed for positioning infants and young children for an appropriate X-ray without significant complications,” they defined on their web site.

“The Pigg-O-Stat safely secures the child and allows the X-ray technician to be brief and efficient while the child remains immobilized,” wrote the maker.

It has been utilized by pediatricians and medical professionals world wide because the 1960s!

The tot trapped within the check tube was apparently simply having his X-ray taken.

“My daughter was in one of those when she was just turning two. She’s usually going to cry about anything out of the ordinary but not not this, for some reason,” one Reddit consumer wrote.

Another commented: “It’s called a Piggostat. I use one every time I do a chest X-ray on a baby. Its use is to immobilize the child so that they don’t wiggle around. It might look scary, but it saves me from repeating my images and excess radiation.”

While some netizens might have been relieved to listen to this, one Reddit consumer began imagining inventive methods to make use of this considerably “scary” picture!

“I’m totally saving this picture for when my 8-year-old asks me where babies come from and how they get in the mom’s belly, ‘See, sweetie, the doctors load the baby into the hopper on top, and this machine compresses the baby, and using high pressure, inserts it into the belly of the mom-to-be,’” she commented.
