No matter how their morning is going, residents near Vaughan, Ontario, can always count on their favorite coffee shop employee to bring a smile to their faces!
Vishnu Gopansothilingan has been working a Tim Hortons drive-thru for years. Every day, he greets his customers like old friends, offering cheerful greetings, fist bumps, and more.

Vishnu has a special way of making everyone feel important. In fact, Matthew Shulman said you get a lot more than coffee and donuts when you pull up to Vishnu’s window.
“He makes your day,” Matthew explained. “This guy, he fist-bumps you, he gives you weather reports. Everybody in the community thinks they’re special and he only does it with them, but it turns out he’s doing it with everybody.”
One day while they were chatting, Matthew found out that Vishnu had dropped out of York University a few years ago. He had been studying IT, but he couldn’t afford to continue taking classes. Life had slipped by since then, and he still didn’t have the funds to pursue his education further. The dilemma got Matthew thinking of ways he could help out!

The loyal customer decided to reach out to their community and find out if other people had the same positive relationship with Vishnu. He quickly realized Vishnu has a huge fan base in the area! Even better, they were all eager to give back to the joyful man who regularly brightens their days.
So Matthew set up a GoFundMe, hoping to raise $10,000. “Vishnu is much more than a guy in a mask working the Tim Hortons drive-thru. He is an amazing human being,” he wrote. “AS A COMMUNITY, LET’S SHOW HIM HOW MUCH WE CARE, send him back to school.”
Amazingly, their neighbors responded by gathering a whopping $21,000!

Then Matthew and about a dozen other donors showed up outside of Vishnu’s work to surprise him with the money! Vishnu was blown away not only by their generosity, but also by seeing that his innate kindness means so much to those around him.
“It’s amazing how people appreciate the small things that I do,” Vishnu said. “I love people. This is who I am, giving back and making people smile.”

What a fitting reward for someone who brings so much joy to others! It just goes to show that we never know the impact we make simply by being kind!
