Drew Barrymore is known for many things: her acting career, the movies she’s produced, the books she’s written, as well as her wine and beauty companies. However, we respect her most for being an adoring mother.
From E.T. and Never Been Kissed to Charlie’s Angels and 50 First Dates, we’ve always had a thing for Drew Barrymore. The only thing better than her resume? Her adorable family. She’s been married to art consultant Will Kopelman since 2012 and they have two daughters, Olive, 3, and Frankie, 1.
For this week’s Mom Crush Monday, we rounded up Barrymore’s take on motherhood, her childhood, and more.
On her goal for each day …
Barrymore told Good Housekeeping,
“Every morning when I wake her up, the endgame is, ‘Can I get her to smile?’ And that puts me in a good mood. It’s definitely a different way to live — and a much better one.”
On how she spends her Sunday fun day …
On what she’s most thankful for …
On how she felt while developing her beauty line Flower …
Barrymore, who was pregnant with her first child, shared her vision for her beauty company with Into the Gloss saying,
“I wonder if my daughter would one day want to be involved. Not knowing who she’s going to be, or what she’ll want to do, I just liked the idea of a legacy. You know? I really admire these multi-generational companies that you have in fashion and beauty, so I was like, ‘I wonder if I’m building something like that, and that one day… could it ever be?’ It was a nice driving force.”
On appreciating her mother …
On the type of childhood she wants for her kids …
After the birth of Olive, Barrymore told Harpers Bazaar,
“I had such an exposed childhood … I appreciate my journey, but I don’t want that for my kid. Not any of it. It has nothing to do with whether I liked my childhood. I really did. But as a parent that isn’t the childhood that I’d provide.”
On her famous grandfather, John Barrymore …
On having a moment with her daughter, Frankie …
On her commitment to being a parent …
Barrymore told Allure,
“I always commit, I want to be that kind of mother … I do everything in this life-or-death way … The only thing I’ve tried to get better at is starting to believe maybe it’s not life or death. But the [level of] commitment hasn’t changed or wavered.”
On being a working mom …
On being truthful with her daughters …
Barrymore opened up to Savannah Guthrie saying,
“I do think I have a responsibility to tell my daughters why I feel the way I feel about things, why I’ve become this person, how I became the person I am. The truth and nothing but the truth.”
On making the most of the winter weather …
On her friendship with Jessica Alba …
On writing her book Wildflower …
Barrymore described the process to PEOPLE noting,
“I’m certainly not known for being boring. I think I’m definitely known for being fun or wild so I wasn’t trying to prove that. I also think things that are more emotional and raw are also a lot lighter than they seemed. Someone once said to me, ‘Your life… It’s so sad.’ And I was like, ‘Well, no, it’s not to me, but I could see how you would think that.’ That’s the heavy perspective. Are you kidding me? My life is amazing.”
On embracing her inner flower child …
On cooking with her 3-year-old …
Barrymore told PEOPLE,
“If she burns herself, someone will say, ‘You are the biggest a-hole, why did you let her near a stove?’ I’m just trying to figure this all out.”
