Doctors Don’t Expect Preemie Twins To Survive. 2 Years Later, They’re Totally Transformed

Two-year-old twins Sapphire and Ruby Wirt have already faced more health challenges than most of us face in a lifetime. And yet, they sparkle with light and joy — despite being given almost no chance of survival at birth.

Born at 24 weeks, hours before the legal abortion deadline, they weighed 1.2 and 1.5 pounds. and were no bigger than their mother Caroline’s hand. After being delivered by Cesarean section in January 2015, the babies were covered with bubble wrap to keep them warm.

As if their size and age weren’t enough, the girls were also born with sepsis. At just a few days old, they both suffered perforation of the intestines.

These miracle twins underwent multiple surgeries. Each time, doctors warned Caroline and her husband, Andy, that they might not survive.

Sapphire and Ruby spent five months in the hospital, enduring procedure after procedure and many ups and downs.

Miraculously, these cuties survived and are now healthy, happy little girls who love to run around and play with their toys.
